Welcome to Whiston Parish Council's website. Whiston is a picturesque little village situated in South Yorkshire, Although it is situated only two miles south east of the town of Rotherham and close to Meadowhall and junction 33 of the M1 Motorway, it is also situated very close to open countryside.

The name Whiston comes from two Old English names - Wite and Stan meaning "The Whitestone". This name probably refers to the nearby quarry where lots of whitestone was mined.
